Man leads deputies on high speed chase with one year old and three week old in car

SALISBURY - Deputies say a man led them on a chase with speeds exceeding 100 miles an hour on I-85 while he had two very young children in the car, and deputies say the children were not restrained in car seats.

It happened on Saturday afternoon. A deputy driving south on Highway 29 near Webb Road noticed a car driving north at a high rate of speed. The deputy began to follow the car, but said in the report that the driver sped up, then made an erratic turn into the parking lot of Bebop’s.

The deputy blocked the driver from turning back on to Highway 29, but the driver did manage to get out of the parking lot and head onto I-85 going south. The deputy says the driver then sped up to to more than 100 miles an hour. While on the interstate, the driver crossed over four lanes of traffic to take the China Grove exit.
