52 Weeks of Giving
Rug & Home Sujpports Local Charities

For select nonprofit charities, it will be like Christmas, whether it comes in May, August, or December. To give back to the community, local retailer Rug & Home — a family-owned, multilocation home furnishings business in the Carolinas — announces a special giveaway to support area charities.

Starting June 15, 2013, Rug & Home will gift one rug per week for the entire year to fifty-two different charitable organizations in need. The purpose of the giveaway is to help charities and nonprofits raise money for their causes. Rug & Home understands that nonprofits have been hardest hit due to the economic downturn over the past several years and wants to extend a supportive hand to these organizations.

The hand-crafted, 100% wool giveaway rugs will be of the highest quality and will all be 5×8 or larger in size. The rugs will come in various sizes and styles, but all will make excellent prizes for silent auctions, raffles, and other fund-raising events.

Here are the rules to apply:

 To be eligible, nonprofits must have a 501c3 status.

 Each organization can win only once during the year.

 The gifted rug must be used for fundraising purposes.

To apply for one of the weekly gifts, charities and nonprofit service organizations must fill out the oneline form at Rug & Home. They must include a short description of how the rug will be used to raise funds, as well as how the funds will help the people or cause served by the organization.

The form also includes sections for the organization ’s mission statement and contact information.

All area charities are encouraged to apply. A Rug & Home committee will select fifty-two different charities, based on the case made, by May 15, 2013. Their decisions are final and winners will be notified via the contact information they provide in the online form.

The owners of Rug & Home are strong believers in giving back to the community that has helped them grow and prosper. In recent years, they have been fervent supporters of the Flat Rock Playhouse, Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, and Believe in Tomorrow Foundation, amongst many other local and national charitable organizations.

While they attribute their success to hard work in the “Land of Opportunity,” the family has not forgotten their roots in India — each year, they bring a group of doctors and volunteers to their homeland for a 3-day health clinic and to support their recently established nonprofit, Vision Express.

Vision Express aims to restore eyesight and works to one day eradicate blindness among the underprivileged population of Indian women.

This year, the Agarwal family once again brings their philanthropy home to the Carolinas with a weekly rug giveaway for fifty-two weeks. Help support them by spreading the word to charitable and nonprofit organizations.

About Rug & Home: In business since 1995, Rug & Home is a local, family-owned business with three locations in Asheville, NC Gaffney, SC and Kannapolis, NC. The stores carry more than 50,000 rugs, furniture, and accessories between three locations. They employ approximately 75 people between all of their locations, and draw customers from a 100-mile radius.

Harris Teeter launches donation campaign to support USO, WWP

Harris Teeter launches donation campaign to support USO, WWP

Today Harris Teeter launched a donation card campaign to support both the United Service Organizations (USO) and Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP), two organizations committed to supporting our troops and their families.

During the month of May, Harris Teeter customers at every Harris Teeter location will be able to make $1, $3, or $5 donations to Support Our Troops at checkout.  Similar community-based donation card campaigns hosted by Harris Teeter have raised more than $500,000 in a given month; the first annual Support Our Troops campaign raised over $445,000.  Harris Teeter is proud to support both the USO and WWP during this May campaign and is thankful for both the involvement of its associates and its customers as well as the good works of both nonprofit partners.

Harris Teeter’s donation to the USO will once again support a number of the USO’s 160 locations, which provide troops and their families with a warm and comforting place where they can connect with family, rest, get a bite to eat or take advantage of a variety of programs and services.

“USO South Carolina is so thankful for the generous support of Harris Teeter and their customers,” said USO South Carolina Director Joanie Thresher. “In 2012 our center provided programs and services for more than 130,000 troops and family members and that would not have been possible without partners like Harris Teeter. Thank you Harris Teeter management, employees and customers for helping us make a difference in the lives of so many.”

Harris Teeter chose to launch its second annual Support Our Troops campaign because of the importance its shoppers place on the programs run by both organizations.  Harris Teeter shoppers have told the company they recognize the sacrifice troops and their families make when they are serving our county, as well as the need to help those men and women who incur service-connected injuries.  They have requested a convenient way to say thanks, and through its’ donation card campaign, Harris Teeter wants to make it easy for its customers to give back.
