The Charlotte Hornets, playing shorthanded Monday night, lost to the Atlanta Hawks 117-114 in overtime in an exhibition game. Playing without four core players, Cody Zeller helped to take up the slack with 18 points and eight rebounds on 8-11 shooting before fouling out in overtime. Gary Neal led the Hornets scoring with 21 points and also had nine rebounds and seven assists. P.J. Hairston added eleven points. Marvin Williams missed the game with an elbow bruise and so did Gerald Henderson(hamstring), Lance Stephenson(groin) and Center Al Jefferson, who was given the night off after playing extensively against the Chicago Bulls on Sunday. The Hornets play again Thursday for their final broadcast exhibition game against the Indiana Pacers starting at 7:00PM in Charlotte. The season officially starts Wednesday October 29th against the Milwaukee Bucks at Time Warner Cable Arena starting at 7:00PM.
