Johnson wins the All Star Race at CMS

Jimmie Johnson added another accomplishment to his long list by winning the Sprint All-Star Race Saturday night.  The five time Nascar Champion became the first four time winner of the annual all-star race, breaking a tie with the late Dale Earnhardt and teammate Jeff Gordon.  He along with the other Sprint Cup Drivers will be back at the track this weekend for the Coca-Cola 600.  Qualifying is Thursday night, the Nationwide race is Saturday afternoon and the Green Flag drops for the Sunday Race at 6:00 PM.

Sprint All-Star Races at CMS

Activity picking up at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the weekend.  Friday it’s qualifying for the Sprint Showdown (5:15 PM) and the All-Star race (6:00 PM) and the Truck Series , the NC Education Lottery 200 starts at 8:00 PM.  Saturday the Sprint Cup Series Showdown starts at 7:30 PM.  The two top finishers from that race, and another that is voted in by the fans will be among the three extras allowed in the All-Star Race that will have a field of 22 cars.  The All-Star race will start at 9:00 PM Saturday.  That race will feature four twenty lap segments with a last sprint to the finish of ten laps.  Gates for spectators will open at 2:00 PM Saturday, with a concert by Josh Turner being featured at 3:15 PM.

Kenseth wins at Darlington

Matt Kenseth won his third race of the season at Darlington Saturday night, the fifth for the Joe Gibbs racing teams this season as well.  Kenseth outdistanced Kyle Busch, who was leading most of the race, to win as Busch had a tire go down after being passed and wound up sixth.  Points Leader Jimmie Johnson finished fourth and now has a 44 point lead over Carl Edwards and 59 over Kenseth in the points race.  Charlotte Motor Speedway hosts the next two Sprint Cup events, the All-Star this Saturday (9:00 PM) and then the Coca-Cola 600 the following Sunday, with a Nationwide race that Saturday the 25th.  Denny Hamlin returned to the track and wound up second and went the distance after being out due to an injury sustained about a month ago.

Talladega Weekend racing

Talladege the site for Nascar events this weekend.  The Nationwide race is Saturday at 3:00 PM, with x games star Travis Pastrana on the pole and qualifying starts at 12:30 PM Saturday for the Spring Cup Race Sunday.  The Green flag is scheduled to drop at 1:00 PM Sunday afternoon.  Denny Hamlin will now at least start in his car, but is expected to give way to relief driver, Brian Vickers, sometime during the race.

Nascar at Talladega this weekend

This weekend Nascar racing heads to Talladega Superspeedway.  Saturday it’s the Nationwide race at 3:00 PM (Aaron’s 312) and Sunday its the Aaron’s 499 for the Sprint Cup Drivers, starting at 1:00 PM.  Denny Hamlin has been cleared by medics to return to racing this weekend.  He has missed four races after sustaining a compression fracture of a vertebra in his lower back in a last-lap accident at California on March 24.  Joe Gibbs racing said Thursday the exact plans for Hamlin will be determined at the track.  He could start the race, then give way to a relief driver.
