Jimmie Johnson captured his sixth Sprint Cup Series Championship with his ninth place finish Sunday in the Homestead-Miami season finale. Johnson was able to even do more than necessary to wrap up the title. Denny Hamlin won the race, and with that was able to preserve his streak of winning at least one race for the last eight years. Matt Kenseth finished second but had to settle also for second in the points chase, finishing 19 points behind Johnson. Dale Earnhardt Jr., Martin Truex Junior, and Clint Bowyer round out the top five in the Sunday race. Johnson is now just one points championship season behind legends Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty. This title also ended a two year drought for Johnson in the Championship race.
