It’s Pole night at Charlotte Motor Speedway Thursday night, as Sprint Cup drivers compete for the top positions for the Saturday night Bank of America 500. It’s an important race for all the drivers, but especially Jimmy Johnson, who needs to win a race soon to ensure his spot in the final group of Chase drivers. Johnson did win the pole in the Spring race and then went on to win the May race. A victory Saturday night would ensure Johnson advancing to the third round of the Chase. The qualifying is scheduled to start at around 7:20PM with a Southern Modified race to follow at 8:40PM. The Nationwide race is Friday night (Race for the Cure 300) at 7:30PM, with the Bank of America 500 Sprint Cup race starting at 7:30PM Saturday.
Another racing note had three time IndyCar Series champion, Sam Hornish, signing a multi-year deal with Richard Petty Motorsports and will drive the No. 9 Ford starting in 2015. Hornish last competed a Full Cup season in 2010 when he drove for Roger Penske. He replaces Marcos Ambrose for Petty, who is leaving NASCAR at the end of this season to drive V8 cars in Australia, his native country, for Team Penske.
