KANNAPOLIS – Billy Scott, 70, a longtime beach music singer and frequent guest at the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in Kannapolis, died Saturday morning at home. Scott’s friend, Harry Turner, said he died from pancreatic cancer.
Scott performed with the group Billy Scott and the Party Prophets at venues across the Carolinas and the Grand Strand.
He began his music career in the 1960′s with the group the Georgia Prophets. He’s best known for the hits “I’ve Got the Fever,” “California,” and “My Kind of Girl.”
Scott also recently appeared with John Carter and Christine Nelson when the show “Carolina Camera” was filmed at the Hall of Fame.
Scott served as Chairman of the Beach Music Association International. Harry Turner is the President of the organization.
Scott is originally from West Virginia. He lived in Charlotte, N.C.
Funeral arrangements have not been released. A benefit was held Sunday at Duck’s in North Myrtle Beach.
