SALISBURY – A Salisbury man is recovering from a gunshot wound after turning his back and walking away from a man who was trying to rob him.
According to Salisbury Police, Van Louis Jones, Jr., walked outside of his home in the Wiley School apartments on Ridge Avenue Monday night when a car pulled up the curb and a man said “give it up.” Taking that to mean he was being robbed, Jones said no, and turned to walk away.
Jones said he was the shot in the backside and the car sped away.
Jones walked back home and called 911 and waited for police. He was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Wake Forest University Baptist medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Anyone with information is asked to call Salisbury Police or Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
