Getting to know the new Food Lion president

SALISBURY – Food Lion announced today that Beth Newlands Campbell has assumed leadership of its supermarkets, which includes Food Lion, Harveys and Reid’s.

The announcement is part of a new leadership structure announced by Delhaize America CEO Roland Smith to provide greater clarity of responsibility and accountability, and improve results across the organization.

In her new role, Newlands Campbell will lead all Food Lion banner operations, including strategic direction, financial performance, product assortment, pricing, customer service and marketing.  Newlands Campbell will report to Smith and will relocate to North Carolina.

Newlands Campbell, a proven retail leader, most recently served as president of Hannaford Supermarkets, Food Lion’s sister banner based in Maine. She has built her career as a food retailer, focused on the value of service to customers, community and associates. Newlands Campbell joined Hannaford as a retail management trainee in 1987. All of her roles, from store manager to company president, have focused on building outstanding service experiences, effective strategies and strong brands. She worked on the team that launched the Hannaford brand more than decade ago. She also has led the organization through strategic changes supporting value, health and ease for shoppers.

Newlands Campbell values community service, both personally and professionally. She has led major charitable campaigns and directed strategic giving to relieve hunger, support families and child development, and drive strategic investments in education. Newlands Campbell serves on the Board of Directors for REI, a leading outdoor equipment company based in Seattle, Wash., and on the Business Advisory Board for Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Science.

A native of Pittsford, N.Y., Newlands Campbell graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor’s degree in Food Industry Management.
