Spencer, NC (WBTV)- He’s one of the biggest pop stars alive: Justin Bieber.

The Biebs is touring North Carolina – with a show in Charlotte Tuesday night.  But the teen idol spent part of his holiday weekend in the Salisbury-area.

Bieber shocked customers at the Waffle House on Jake Alexander Boulevard when he stopped by at about 3 a.m. Monday.

It’s not the first time people in the area have done a double take while eating at a local restaurant. Megastar Aretha Franklin had dinner at the Cracker Barrel in Salisbury last year.

After his early morning breakfast run, the Biebs spent most of the afternoon working the camera for his Teen Vogue photo shoot at the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer.

The museum was closed for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day so Bieber and crew had the place mostly to themselves.

Workers say the Biebs was all steamed up – posing with steam engines, that is.

“It all came together very quickly,” said Mark Brown of the N.C. Transportation Museum. “They were looking for a convenient place between the Charlotte and Greensboro concerts, and wanted to have old rail equipment in the background.”

It may have come together quickly, but word still got out. There were 20-30 fans waiting at the museum entrance for a glimpse of the pop star, but all they saw was the back of the tour bus.

“He was well-protected. He had people around him the whole time,” said Brown.

Officials with the N.C. Transportation Museum said Bieber changed outfits several times, and brought his own deejay to spin the tracks.

When it was over, Bieber reportedly said, “Kill the music…good to meet all of you, we out.”

No pictures have been released, but the Biebs did tweet to his fans at 10:48 p.m. Monday, “think u will like the shoot we did today. #teenvogue”

WBTV is told the magazine paid to use the state-owned museum for the photo shoot. That’s good for the museum, which has been struggling financially since the state cut its annual allocation by more than $700,000.

George Clooney’s 2008 movie “Leatherheads” also used the N.C. Transportation Museum to shoot several scenes.
