A Salisbury man died Wednesday afternoon in a house fire on Bringle Ferry Road. According to Salisbury Fire Chief Bob Parnell, a call for help was received at 4:03 p.m. when someone noticed smoke coming from the aged structure. The man's body was found inside of the home. The house was located at 510 Bringle Ferry Road, near the intersection with Long Street, beside the former home of Power Curbers.
Investigating police say the victim's identity won't be released until next of kin are notified. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
Hotel Owner Faces Large Tax Bill
Rowan County may take legal action against a Salisbury hotel which reportedly owes the county around $15,000. The Travelodge at 1328 South Jake Alexander Boulevard, formerly Ramada Inn, has collected the county's 3 percent occupancy tax, but hasn't turned it over to the county. Tourism Development Authority officials discussed the situation with County Attorney Jay Dees during a lunch meeting Wednesday. Dees said he plans to serve hotel owner Ken Chung with a notice in the next few days.
