CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- The nation’s largest electric utility is getting a new look.

The new logo – seen attached to this story – was developed internally on the heels of Duke Energy’s merger with Progress Energy in July 2012.

Duke Energy customers will see a new logo starting Monday, March 25. Company officials expect a complete logo change out in the next few months.

“Customers will start seeing the logo soon, but it will take a number of months for the rollout to be complete,” said Ginny Mackin, Duke Energy vice president and chief communications officer.

“In the end, we’ll have one logo to symbolize one unified company – representing the largest electric utility in the nation.”

On March 25, Duke Energy will begin rolling out the logo on company signs, vehicles and other locations in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky, as well as those areas of North Carolina and South Carolina served by legacy Duke Energy prior to the merger.

Beginning April 29, the company will begin rolling out the logo in Florida, as well as those areas of North Carolina and South Carolina served by legacy Progress Energy before the merger.

Also in April, two former Progress Energy utilities will change names. Progress Energy Florida will adopt the Duke Energy name. Progress Energy Carolinas will become Duke Energy Progress.

To minimize customer confusion, Duke Energy Progress will use a modified version of the new logo that includes the word “Progress” – to differentiate it from Duke Energy Carolinas, which serves customers in different areas of North Carolina and South Carolina.
