The new North Second Creek bridge on Woodleaf Road is open again to traffic, three weeks ahead of schedule.
The road has been closed between Godbey Road and Goodson Road since the latter part of June. Traffic had been detoured around the bridge forcing drivers to instead use Highway 801 and U.S. 70 when traveling to and from Salisbury.
The old bridge was built in 1955 and had a sufficiency rating of 2 out of 100. That didn’t mean the bridge was unsafe, but meant that it was not built to modern design standards and no longer met the needs of today’s drivers.
