SALISBURY – The Salisbury Optimist Club’s annual Respect for Law breakfast drew quite a crowd to the Holiday Inn Tuesday morning.
Each year, the club hosts the event that honors the work of all who work in law enforcement at the local, state, and federal level in Rowan County.
The Paul G. Wilson Award for Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year went to Salisbury Police Chief Rory Collins. A surprise honor was presented to Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Michael Taylor who was given the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Taylor has for years overseen the county’s “Shield A Badge With Prayer” effort that encourages community members to pray for law enforcement officers and deputies.
Each local agency also presented an award for the outstanding member of the individual departments.
The Respect for Law breakfast is part of the national “Police Week” emphasis.
