The New York Mets outlasted the Atlanta Braves Sunday in New York, winning in fourteen innings 4-3 and avoided a sweep from the Braves. Curtis Granderson hit a sacrifice fly that allowed the winning run to score. David Wright had four hits and three early Brave errors also hurt the Braves chances. An error by Dan Uggla proved to be the key to the Mets winnng run. The Braves are 12-6 and are a game and a half up on the second place Washington Nationals as of Monday. The Braves are beginning a six game homestand Monday night against the Miami Marlins. Julio Tehran is due on the mound for Atlanta. This begins a three game series and the Monday Airtime on Newsradio 1490 is 5:55PM with a first pitch at 7:10PM.
After a day off Easter Sunday, the Kannapolis Intimidators begin a road trip at the West Virginia Power Monday night with gametime at 7:05PM. The next homestand for the Intimidators begins Tuesday April 29th against the Power. While the Intimidators are away, the F & M Bank Classic takes place Wednesday through Friday this week. There are four schools from Rowan County being represented and four schools from Cabarrus County. The games will start at 11:00AM Each day with first round games set. Consolation games Thursday and Friday will be played at the A.L. Brown High School field. East Rowan is hosting its tournament Thursday through Saturday with West Rowan also involved in that tournament.
In College Results from Sunday, North Carolina topped Number One Ranked Virginia 4-2, Boston College edged NC State in 11 innings 9-7, the Pack rallying twice to tie the game before falling in the extra innings. Duke blanked Virginia Tech 2-0, Wake Forest upset fourth ranked Florida State 5-2, Pittsburgh upended #22 Clemson 13-4, and Elon defeated Appalachian State 4-2.
