The Atlanta Braves opened their 2013 season on a winning note, holding off the Phillies at Turner Field in Atlanta Monday night 7-5. Atlanta belted three homers, a two run shot by Freddie Freeman in the first inning, and then subsequent homers by Dan Uggla and newcomer Justin Upton, making his Braves debut. Tim Hudson started but was taken out in the fifth inning, so he did not get the win, but rather reliever Luis Avalon came on to get out of a fifth inning jam and got the credit for the win. Craig Kimbrel came on in the ninth after Eric O’Flaherty also relieved. Kimbrel got the side out in order to get the save. Cole Hamels took the loss for the Phillies. Freeman wound up with three hits and three RBI’s. Retired star, Chipper Jones, wore his old jersey and threw out the first ball. The Braves take Tuesday off before resuming their series with the Phillies in Atlanta Wednesday night. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1490, starting pregame at 5:55 PM, and first pitch at 7:10 PM.
