College Basketball

By Howard Platt on January 15, 2013

A new Number One Team in College Basketball, with Duke and Michigan going down this past weekend, Louisville took over the top spot in the rankings and then defeated Big East Rival Connecticut Monday night.  Duke dropped to third with their loss to NC State Saturday, but got good news in that Seth Curry will most likely be able to play Thursday against Georgia Tech.  Curry suffered a slight left ankle sprain in the Saturday game against NC State.  He didn’t practice Monday, but Coach Krzyzewski said he feels like he’ll be able to play.  Forward Ryan Kelly is still questionable indefinitey with an injured knew.

In games Monday night, Livingstone’s Men ended a two game losing streak with an 81-78 victory at home over Chowan.  Six players in double figures were led by Mark Thomas with 15 points, and Darnell Turner with 14.  Two big defensive plays by Anthony Welch, a blocked shot, and a steal sealed the win for the Blue Bears.  Livingstone improved to 12-3 overall, 4-2 in the CIAA.  The Livingstone Women lost their game to Chowan 54-51, despite 14 points and 12 rebounds from Jasmine Murray.  Their record dropped to 6-9 overall, 2-4 in the CIAA.

Other scores in the Carolinas:  Georgia Southern 70 Davidson 57, Elon 80 Western Carolina 67, Appalachian State 83 UNC-Greensboro 70, College of Charleston 73 The Citadel 69, and Fuman 69 Wofford 65.  In the ACC Tuesday night, Wake Forest visits Clemson at 7:00PM.
