ACC Basketball Tuesday night, North Carolina won at Boston College 82-70 but paid a price, as P.J. Hairston suffered a concussion after a collision with teammate, Dexter Strickland underneath the basket in the first half. Hairston had a hot first half before then, with 14 points, including 4-4 in three point shooting. He banged the back of his head on the floor after the collision, and a North Carolina spokesman said he suffered a concussion, but was not taken to the hospital. James Michael McAdoo led the Tarheel scoring with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Strickland added fourteen points. Olivier Hanlan scored 22 points to lead BC. UNC is now 4-3 in the ACC, and 14-6 overall. Boston College dropped to 1-6 in the ACC (last place) and 9-11 overall.
NC State was upended by Virginia 58-55, as the Cavaliers moved past the Wolfpack into second place in the ACC with the win in Charlottesville. Joe Harris led Virginia with 22 points, and the Cavs ended the game with a 13-6 run. Akil Mitchell added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Virginia. Virginia rallied from a 31-24 deficit at halftime. C.J. Leslie led the Wolfpack with 20 points and 14 rebounds, and Richard Howell had 12 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. Virginia upped its record to 15-5 overall, 5-2 in the ACC. State, ranked 19th in the nation, dropped to 16-5 overall, 5-3 in the ACC. Lorenzo Brown injured his left ankle and left the game midway through the first half.
Also in the ACC, Clemson edged by Georgia Tech 63-60 at Littlejohn Colliseum. K. J. McDaniel led the Tigers with 15 points, including two critical free throws with 16 seconds left. Clesmon evened their ACC mark to 4-4, their overall record now 12-8.
