One game involving Rowan County on the Basketball court Wednesday night, with West Rowan and Statesville splitting a doubleheader. The West Boys lost a tough game against the NPC Conference leading Greyhounds 64-55. The game was tied at 51-51 when Statesville went on a late run of 11-2 to finish off the Falcons. For West, Celexius Long topped the scoring with 16 points and Seth Martin added 15. Statesville was led by Josh Gaither and Jaquan Warren, each with 16 points. The win wrapped up the third consecutive NPC regular season title for Statesville, and put them at 10-0 in the conference, 16-3 overall. West dropped to 6-3 in the conference (3rd place), 8-12 overall.
In the Girls game, West Rowan easily handled the Lady Greyhounds 57-37. The game was actually decided very early, when West outpointed Statesville 21-1 in the first quarter and then led at the half 33-6. Coach Todd McNeely substituted liberally in the second half and played his entire 12 player squad, nine of them scoring. NeNe Dixon led West with 19 points, Khaila Hall added eleven, and Shay Steele had nine points, 8 rebounds, and four blocked shots in limited playing time. West moved back into a tie for first in the NPC with an 8-1 conference mark, and they are 19-1 overall.
Games Friday will include our feature game on Newsradio 1490 and 1490wstp.com, Lexington at Salisbury. Coverage will start at 7:05PM. Other games scheduled include: South Stanly at North Rowan, West Rowan at North Iredell, East Rowan at South Rowan, and West Iredell at Carson. The West-North Iredell Girls game will pit two of the three teams tied for first in the conference with 8-1 records.
