High School Basketball Update

By Howard Platt on January 25, 2013

With the frozen precipitation in the forecast and falling on Friday, scheduled High School Basketball games were postponed with schools letting out early due to the weather.  That included the Statesville at West Rowan games and the Salisbury at Thomasville games.  The Salisbury-Thomasville games will be made up next Wednesday, January 30th.  The Statesville at West Rowan games have not had a rescheduled date announced yet.  Salisbury and North Rowan will play their Doubleheader as scheduled Saturday night at North Rowan starting with the girls game at 6:00PM.

Thursday night, two games were moved up and successfully completed.  Carson took a pair of games from East Rowan, with the girls winning 53-41 and the boys taking a 60-46 victory.  In the girls game, Carson’s Allison Blackwell had 21 points, and played a stellar defensive game, holding East’s leading scorer, Kelli Fisher, scoreless.  Kelly Dulkoski led all scorers for Carson with 24 points.  Karliegh Wike had 26 points and 17 rebounds to lead East.  Carson moved to 15-3 overall, 6-0 in the North Piedmont Conference.  East dropped to 10-7 overall, 2-4 in the NPC.  In the Boys game, Jacob Raper had twenty points for the winning Cougars.  Conor Honeycutt had 15 for East.  Carson moved to 11-7 overall, 5-1 in the NPC.  East drops to 4-12 overall, 1-5 in the NPC.

South Rowan had both their boys and girls romp at West Iredell.  The South Boys rolled to a 71-38 win, with Josh Medlin leading the way with 20 points.  South led 33-23 at the half, and then put the game away with a dominant third quarter, outscoring the struggling Warriors 17-4.  South Boys improved to 11-8 overall, 4-3 in the NPC.  West Iredell dropped to 2-13, 0-7 in the NPC.  The South Girls also were easy winners with a 64-43 win.  Avery Locklear had thirty points, Cassidy Chipman added eighteen.  South improved to 5-13 overall, 2-5 in the league.  West Iredell is no 2-12, 1-6 in the NPC.

Also it was Davie County defeating North Davidson in boys competition, 77-60, with the Girls topping North Davidson 76-60.

Next broadcast High School Basketball on Newsradio 1490 and 1490wstp.com is East Davidson at Salisbury Tuesday night, January 29th.  There will be four broadcasts next week with West Rowan at Carson Girls next Wednesday at 6:15PM, Albemarle at North Rowan Thursday at 7:05PM and Friday February 1st, East Rowan at West Rowan at 7:30PM.  Join us for play by play for all these events.

Also postponed Today (Friday January 25th), the rescheduled Rowan County Swim Meet at the J.F. Hurley YMCA.  No makeup available as of yet.
