Conference Tournaments started Monday night for area teams. Results included:
(Boys) West Davidson 53 Salisbury 42 (Zach Queen led West Davidson with 21 points, while Keon Adams led Salsibury for a third straight game with 13 points. A surge at the end of the first quarter put the Green Dragons on top 19-14 and they went on from there. Salisbury now must wait to see and hope that West Davidson or Thomaville does not win the tournament, so they can get a State Playoff berth next week.
(Boys) West Rowan 81 West Iredell 31 (West vaulted to a 19-3 lead in the first quarter and went on to the easy win. Devin Parks led the scoring with 18 points. The Falcons play again Thursday in the NPC Semifinals at North Iredell against rival Carson at 7:30PM. The winner of that game will most likely get the second seed in the State Playoffs from the conference.)
(Boys) Carson 68 East Rowan 42 (The season ends for the East Boys. Carson had four players in double figures led by Tre Williams and Colton Laws, each with 13 points. Once again they play West Rowan Thursday night.
(Girls) West Rowan 78 Statesville 43 (Shay Steele led the Lady Falcons with 26 points and ten rebounds. Allison Sobataka added fourteen points. It was the seventh win in eight games for West, who are now 22-2 overall. West Girls play Carson at 6:00PM Thursday in the Semifinals at North Iredell. West will be the second seed for the NPC in the state Playoffs unless Carson or someone else below them in the standings wins the tournament.
(Girls) Carson 59 West Iredell 40 (Kelly Dulkoski had 29 points to lead the Lady Cougars. As the conference third seed, Carson must win the tournament to move up to the second seed. Carson meets West Thursday at 6:00PM in the semifinals.
(Girls) East Rowan 64 South Rowan 38 (East led by Sydney Poole with 22 points, Karleigh Wike had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Leading 29-24 at the half, the Lady Mustangs broke the game open in the third quarter when they outscored South 16-5. South’s season has ended while East will now face top seeded North Iredell Wednesday night at 6:00PM in the tourny semifinals. East now has a guaranteed spot in the State Playoffs.
(Girls) North Rowan 71 Albemarle 48 (Taylor Sells had seven three pointers for 21 ponts and Special Washington had 17 points, that included four threes, as the Lady Cavaliers had a total of twelve three pointers. They will play again Thursday in the Yadkin Valley Conference Tournament Semifinals at 6:00PM.)
First Round Tournament play continues tonight at the site of the upper seeds with North Rowan’s top seeded Boys facing South Davidson in the YVC, Salisbury’s girls at Lexington at 7:00PM (Salisbury must win the tournament in order to advance to the State Playoffs next week), and South Rowan’s Boys at North Iredell at 6:00PM(South must win Tuesday and win the Tournament in order to get a State Playoff berth).
All of the tournaments go to various locations for the Semifinals and Finals Wednesday thru Friday. The YVC moves to East Montgomery, the CCC to Lexington, and the NPC to North Iredell. Semifinals are Wednesday and Thursday with Championships decided Friday.
