Friday night High School Football produced a mixed bag of results for Rowan County teams. In our feature game, Concord smashed East Rowan 55-28 at Mustang Stadium. Concord’s highly touted running back, Rocky Reid, ran all over East, scoring four touchdowns and rushing for 290 yards, including an 89 yarder in the opening minutes that eventually led to as much as a 35-0 lead before East was finally able to score late in the first half. Terry Cassell also ran for three touchdowns. East did get within 35-21 late in the third quarter with some long TD passes by East QB Sam Wyrick, but Concord would pull away again. East dropped to 2-3 overall, 1-2 in the SPC, while Concord moved to 5-0 overall, 3-0 in the SPC. In other results, West Rowan buried South Rowan 65-7. The Falcons streaked to a 30-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, and led 51-7 by halftime. Carson won a defensive struggle over Mt. Pleasant, scoring late in the game to take the win. North Rowan rolled to its sixth straight win, beating Forest Hills on the road 34-7. Qb Jareke Chambers took part in four scores, running for two, and getting two TD passes. Chambers now has 18 TD’s this season. Also Reagan held off Davie County 45-37 after building up a 45-17 lead and Kannapolis beat North Mecklenburg 30-14.
