They played between the rain drops at East Rowan Friday night, but got the game in, as East Rowan defeated South Rowan 5-1 at Staton Field. The Mustangs gained revenge for a 9-0 loss they had against South on March 19. East got all the runs they would need in the first inning, when they scored two to take the lead they never relinquished. Chase Jarrett got credit for the win before he left the game in the fifth for Josh Gobble, who worked out of a jam in the fifth, then Connor Johnson finished up with two scoreless innnings for his second save. Aaron Bare took the loss for South. The Mustangs improved to 7-4 in the NPC, 9-12 overall, while South dropped to 6-5 in the NPC, 13-7 overall.
Catawba stayed alive in the SAC Tournament in Forest City, NC with a 9-4 win in an elmination game against Wingate. SAC player of the year, Chris Dula homered and drove in four for the winning Indians. It was also Coach Jim Gantt’s 600th career win. Catawba took the lead for good with four runs in the fifth inning. Dula hit his fourteenth homer of the year, a two run blast in that fifth inning. Blake Houston had three hits and three runs scored and Danny Parisi went 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Catawba improved to 35-15 for the season and will play the winner of an earlier game Saturday between Tusculum and Lincoln Memorial at 7:30 PM Saturday in another elimination game in the Double Elimination Tournament. John Tuttle picked up his tenth win in the game Friday.
The game Friday between Top Ranked North Carolina and Duke in Chapel Hill was postponed due to rain, and was rescheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM. Carson’s baseball game with West Iredell was postponed Friday and rescheduled for Monday.
