After five straight losses to Atlanta this season and nine straight going back to last season, the Washington Nationals finally stopped the Braves, shutting them down 2-0 Wednesday night at Turner Field. Jordan Zimmerman allowed just two hits over eight innings and outpitched Paul Maholm for the win. Ian Desmond hit a two run homer to account for all the scoring in the game, that coming in the fourth inning. Zimmerman also struck out eight and retired seventeen straight batters before he gave way to closer Rafael Soriano in the ninth, as he completed the shutout. The Braves still lead by 3 1/2 games in the NL East over the Nats. The two teams conclude the series in Atlanta Thursday night, with Kris Medlen on the mound for Atlanta against Washington’s Dan Haren. First pitch is 7:10 PM with a pregame airtime from the Braves Network on Newsradio 1490 at 5:55 PM. The Braves will begin a weekend series with the Mets in Atlanta on Friday night.
