Rowan County broke at 2-2 tie in the eighth inning with a four run rally, and Brian Bauk pitched a complete nine inning game taking a 6-2 vicotry over County rival, Southern Rowan. The game was the Southeast Division opener for both teams and the first game that counted on teh divisional record. Rowan picked up two runs in the first inning, but Southern Rowan would tie the game with two runs in the third. The game would stay tied until the decisive eighth inning, when Chase Hathcock’s two run triple would put Rowan ahead, and two more insurance runs would be added. Southern Rowan’s Dillon Parker was the tough luck loser, pitching into the eighth inning before he tired a bit. A critical error allowed an extra out for Rowan that ended up being crucial. Southern Rowan also had poor baserunning plague them, being picked off three times and also being caught trying to advance from second with the ball in front of them. Ashton Fleming led Rowan at the plate with three hits, including a double. The win improved Rowan’s record to 9-6 overall, while the South team dropped to 8-6 overall.
Also in Legion results from Sunday, Mocksville defeated the Mooresville Legends 4-2, Nick Boswell picking up the win with seven solid innings on the mound. In Monday night games scheduled, Rowan travels to Albemarle to face Stanly County in another game that counts in the Division standings. Southern Rowan is due to play Kannapolis at Northwest Cabarrrus High School. Stanly County defeated Kannapolis 4-2 on Sunday night in their opening division game. Both games are to start at 7:00 PM.
