Another consequence from the government shutdown

At a meeting this morning, I learned of yet another consequence from the government shutdown. I had read previously about how families would not be receiving their day care subsidies. What I didn’t know is this: Many of these families are those in which parent(s) work and their only benefit is a subsidy for day care. If they can’t pay for day care, they can’t work which means they could lose their jobs. And, equally as bad, some of these families are resorting to having their older children stay home from school to take care of the younger children. This is on top of the issue of families not receiving their WIC benefits to feed their children. What kind of country are we that we allow this fiasco to fall so heavily on the backs of those who can least afford it?
