Braves win in the early morning hours, prepare for two Tuesday

The Atlanta Braves waited until nearly 11:00PM to get started, but they finished with a flourish, winning 2-1 on a Freddie Freeman walkoff two run homer at about 1:22AM at Turner Field Monday night/Tuesday morning.  Freeman’s homer came against Dillon Gee of the New York Mets, who had held the Braves scoreless through eight innings before giving up a single to Justin Upton and then the homer to Freeman in the ninth.  The game ended about 1:22AM Eastern.  The Mets scored their only run in the seventh and Gee had allowed only two runners as far as second base before the winning homer.  Freeman had three hits for the night.  David Carpenter pitched a scoreless ninth and got credit for the win.  Tim Hudson worked seven innings, giving up just the one run.  Gee gave up only five hits in the tough luck loss for him.  The two teams will have another very long day, as they are playing a day-night doubleheader Tuesday, starting at 1:10PM in the afternoon (11:55AM airtime for Newsradio 1490) and then a night game due to start at 7:10PM.  The night game will be joined in broadcast following a Legion game broadcast.  If the Legion game is rained out, Newsradio 1490 will have coverage at 5:55PM.
