College Basketball: Duke Women ousted, East Carolina men win CIT

Duke’s Women’s basketball team’s season ended, as Top Seeded and Second Ranked Notre Dame rallied from a six point deficit and defeated the Lady Blue Devils 87-76 to win the Norfolk Regional and advance to the Final Four in New Orleans.  Skyler Diggins led the Irish with 24 points.  A 15-2 run early in the second half keyed the win for the Lady Irish.  Duke lost in the Regional Finals for a fourth straight year.  Louisville topped Tennessee 86-78 to win the other Regional Final Tuesday night in Oklahoma City.  The Women’s NCAA Final Four will take place Sunday and Tuesday in New Orleans.  Louisville will take on California and Notre Dame goes against Connecticut in the semifinals Saturday. 

East Carolina won the CIT Tournament Championship Tuesday, beating Weber State 77-74 in Ogden, Utah.  The Pirates were trailing 71-65 with just 2:50 remaining, but had a 12-3 run to close the game.  It was the best season in school history, finishing with a 23-12 record.  Weber State wound up 30-7, and it was only their second loss on their homecourt in twenty games. 

In the NIT, Maryland was eliminated by Iowa in the semifinals in New York Tuesday night 71-60.  The Terps were the last ACC team standing, and this was their final game as an ACC representative in Basketball, as they will be moving to the Big Ten next season.  Baylor won the other semifinal over BYU 76-70.  The Championship game is at Madison Square Garden Thursday night.
