College World Series update

North Carolina and NC State both continue play Tuesday in Omaha, Nebraska.  North Carolina plays LSU in an elimination game at three o’clock and Coach Mike Fox has indicated that he will start his bullpen ace, Freshman Trent Thornton.  Thornton has been the Tar Heels most effective pitcher recently in the postseason, but has not started a game since March 27th against Winthrop.  He’ll be counted on to continue his recent outstanding work on the mound.  LSU lost 2-1 to UCLA Sunday night, while the Tar Heels were put in the losers bracket when NC State beat them 8-1 behind their ace Carlos Rodon.  The game will be televised on ESPN.  The losers season ends, while the winner will play again on Wednesday.  NC State takes on UCLA in a winner’s bracket game at 8:00 PM.  State has not announced its starting pitcher at this time.  The winner of this game gets a day off Wednesday as a reward for staying in the winner’s bracket.

Monday’s results had Oregon State eliminating Louisville 11-4, while Mississippi State rallied in the eighth inning for three runs to take a 5-4 win over Indiana in the winner’s bracket game.  Oregon State will play at 8:00 PM against Indiana Wednesday night in an elimination game.
