Duke Loses NIT Season Tipoff Championship to Arizona

#4 Arizona lived up to its higher ranking, winning the Championship of the NIT Season Tipoff at New York City’s Madison Square Garden Friday night over #6 Duke 72-66.  Arizona, now 7-0 had a lead of ten with 3:59 to play.  Arizona was able to hold Duke’s Freshman star, Jabari Parker, to under twenty points (19) for the first time this season.  Parker struggled against a physical Wildcat defense, going only 7 for 21 from the field.  Duke dropped to 6-2 with the loss.  They will host Michigan Tuesday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium in their next game Tuesday night, with tipoff time at 9:15PM.  Other games scheduled for Saturday include Wake Forest vs. Tennessee 3:30PM and Eastern Kentucky at NC State at 8:00PM.  Locally Pfeiffer plays at Mars Hill. 

Friday Scores:  Wake Forest 77 Southern Cal 63(Battle Of Atlantis tournament) Clemson 69 Coastal Carolina 40, Maryland 89 Morgan State 62, and Georgia 71 Appalachian State 53.  Florida also edged Florida State 67-66.  Sunday North Carolina plays at UAB, a game you can hear on Newsradio 1490 with pregame coverage at 5:00PM for a 6:00PM tipoff.
