Leonids meteor shower peaks tonight

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- If you’re up early (or out late), look up at the sky and you just may catch a glimpse of a meteor.

At its peak, the Leonids can produce up to 40 meteors per hour and a crescent moon that sets early in the evening will allow the dimmer meteors to be seen.  The shower appears to radiate from the constellation Leo, hence the name.

The best time to stargaze will be around 3 a.m. ET.

A secondary peak takes place on November 20th.
