In High School Baseball Thursday, East Rowan routed Mt. Pleasant 14-0.  A nine run first inning set the tone for the game, as Michael Caldwell went 2-2 with three runs and two RBI’s, Michael Freeman was 2-2 with two runs and four Runs Batted In that included a bases clearing triple, and Mason Doby was also 2-2 with three runs scored.  Winning pitcher Harrison Bell pitched four innings and allowed only one hit and Alec Hamilton finished the five inning game with a scoreless fifth.  With the win in the ten run rule game, East improved to 11-6 on the year. 

In SPC play, Concord edged West Rowan 3-2 at Mount Ulla.  Michael Ball took a tough luck loss, pitching a full seven innings and allowing jsut six hits and three runs, with none of the runs being earned.  He struck out eleven and walked only one.  Concord’s Tyler Thomas got the win, going 6 2/3 innings with eight hits allowed and two earned runs.  He got some late relief help to get the final out.  West dropped to 6-5 in the SPC, 7-6 overall.

Also in action from Thursday, South Rowan rallied from a 9-4 deficit in the seventh inning to score five in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 9-9, and then won in nine innings 10-9.  A dropped throw home in the bottom of the ninth ended the game with a Raider win. And Salisbury lost to North Forsyth 5-2 Thursday.

Games set for Friday include:  Thomasville at Salisbury, West Rowan at Concord, Carson at Northwest Cabarrus, and Hickory Ridge at South Rowan, all to start at 6:30PM.  North Rowan has a game scheduled at East Davidson, the first place team in the Central Carolina’s Conference, at 7:00PM.

The Kannapolis Intimidators lost their first road game of the year at Greenville to the Red Sox SAL affiliate, the Drive 7-6 in ten innings.  Kannapolis failed to hold a three run lead late in the game.  Shortstop Cleuluis Rondon went 4-5 with two RBI’s.  Kannapolis, now 4-4 has a game at Greenville scheduled Friday night at 7:05PM.

Also Friday Catawba begins its weekend series at SAC foe Tusculum, starting at 6:00PM .  They will have a doubleheader of two seven inning games Saturday starting at 1:00PM.
