A Loss for North Rowan Football ends their season

It was only the first loss of the season in 14 games, but it has ended the Football season for North Rowan.  Shelby’s Golden Lions ousted the Cavaliers in Spencer Friday night 45-21.  North actually had a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter after a one yard TD run by Quarterback Alexius Archie and a 45 yard pass from Archie to Darrell Taylor.  But Shelby eventually tied the game quickly and went ahead on a 90 yard TD pass that marked the turning point of the game with Shelby scoring 21 points in a row that gave them a 28-14 lead at halftime. Shelby would go on to dominate and up their lead in the second half.  North would get one second half touchdown, but the speedy and powerful Golden Lions were just too much for them.  Shelby was also able to hold Cavalier star running back Jareke Chambers to just 80 yards on 17 carries, with no touchdowns.  Meanwhile, Shelby rushed for 239 yards and wound up with 483 yards of total offense.  Shelby will now go on to the Western 2A Regional Finals at Reidsville this coming Friday night.  Reidsville edged Lincolnton 13-10  Friday night to gain their berth in the Fourth Round.  North Rowan winds up the season at 13-1, a school record for wins and still a season to remember.

In other playoff results of note, Concord defeated Belmont South Point 21-13 to advance to the 3A regional final against Forestview of Gastonia who beat Lenoir Hibriten 42-20.  Albemarle also advance in the 1A Playoffs to the Regional Final with a 29-20 win over South Robeson.
