IREDELL COUNTY, NC (WBTV) – A man was taken into custody Thursday after a chase that ended with a standoff on I-77 in Iredell County.

The incident happened after a reported chase involving a dump truck on southbound I-77 that ended in the Troutman area after the truck appeared to have wrecked in the wood line near a rest stop just south of exit 42.

Officials have not said why they were chasing the truck, but WBTV has learned that stop sticks were used and were successful on one of the tires of the truck.

From Sky 3, officers could be seen ducking behind their vehicles with guns drawn, focusing on the truck.

The standoff lasted for more than three hours. At one point, deputies threw something to the driver of the truck. The driver got out of the truck to get the item thrown with what appeared to be a gun against his head, then got back into the vehicle.

The driver of the truck was believed to have a revolver with him in the vehicle, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s office.

Just before 7:30 p.m. the driver exited the truck and was taken into custody. Neither his name, or charges he may be facing, have been released.
