Playoff Baseball Begins: Braves win Regular Season Finale

The Atlanta Braves ended their regular season on a winning note, blasting the Philadelphia Phillies 12-5 in Atlanta.  Evan Gattis had a two run homer among his three hits.  Winning the NL East, the Braves wind up with their best regular season in nine years.  They will begin a best of five Divisional Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night at a time to be announced.  Newsradio 1490 will have play by play coverage of the series as it continues.  St. Louis wound up with the best record in the National League and will host the winner of the Wildcard game from Tuesday night between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati and that series will also start on Thursday.  In the American League, Tampa Bay is at Texas Monday night in a game to determine the second wildcard team.  Gametime is 8:00PM and will be televised on TBS.  The winner of that game will play at Cleveland in the Wildcard Playoff game Wednesday night.  The AL Division series will feature AL East Champion Boston hosting the winner of the Wildcard game, while Oakland takes on Detroit.  Both of those divisional series will start on Friday with the A’s being the first host team in their series.  All Divisional series are best of five.  The Braves will play Thursday and Friday at Atlanta, take a day off Saturday, then travel to Los Angels for games Sunday and Monday, if necessary, then back to Atlanta next Wednesday if necessary for a fifth and deciding game.
