SALISBURY – Two registered sex offenders are back in jail, one for failing to notify the sheriff about a change of address, the other for living within 1000 feet of a child care center.

Deputies had been searching for Phillip Larry Berryman, 48, since last month.  Berryman is now being held under $100,000 bond for failing to register as a sex offender and a probation violation.  Berryman was jailed on the same failure to register charge in 2008 and 2006.  His original conviction on a sex crime occurred in 2005 when he was convicted for taking indecent liberties with a child.

Warrants had issued for Berryman in June when deputies discovered that he was living near the Salisbury Child Care and Fine Arts Center, on Standish Street in Salisbury.

North Carolina General Statute 14-208.16(a) prohibits a sex offender from residing within 1,000 feet of the property, on which any public or non-public school or child care is located.

Stephen Paul Aydelotte was convicted of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor in Utah in 2003.  He has been jailed in Rowan County under $2500 bond for failing to register his address with the Rowan Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone convicted of a sex crime and is listed as a registered sex offender is bound by law to keep a current address on file with local law enforcement.  Failure to do so results in additional criminal charges.
